Inkmen
The Game
Intro
Inkmen is a card game, but your hand is made out of the enemies you've beaten.
How far can you go?
Gameplay
Inkmen is turned based.
Every turn, you have a certain amount of Action Points you can spend to do the following actions:
- Use the active skill of one of your inkmen (cost: written in the active skill description)
- Drag a card onto the field to summon an inkman (cost: 1)
- Move an inkman to another place (cost: 1)
Every card has also an ink cost.
To spawn the card, you need to spend that amount in ink.
You can also convert cards to ink.
Inkmen can have active skills, but also passive skills.
Controls
Everything can be played with the mouse.
Outside of a battle:
Click to skip a dialogue.
During a battle:
- Click on an inkman to select it.
- Click on a selected inkman or click on the cross button to unselect it.
- Click on active skills text to use the skill.
- Click on End Turn to finish your turn
- Drag a card onto the field to spawn a new inkman.
- Drag a card to the ink zone to consume it and get more ink.
- Drag a inkman to change its order in the team.
- Put your mouse on the left side or press A to go left
- Put your mouse on the right side or press D to go right
Credits
I made this game mainly by myself in 4 days for the GMTK Jam.
However, almost every inkman has been made by a different and unique person, with a total of 79 persons in total.
All the inkmen artists are credited in the Credits.md file (downloadable).
This is how I built this game to scale up my team, fitting for the GMTK Jam's theme.
Dialogic has also been used.
108 different inkmen in total!
Good luck for finding yours!
Thank you everyone!

Gameplay spoiler below:
This game is very fun! I'm stopping here because I'm just going infinite at this point haha!
This was a very fun idea, I love all the different art from everyone who contributed, and I think you planned involving everybody super well--keeping it to stick figures was such a good idea.
I don't really have much feedback other than just that the game does seem to go infinite--once you get a high enough attack that's cheap and you have the ink to action point conversion, you basically just grind through the enemies and end up getting more ink than you spend every round (in my run I had >1000 ink when I quit). I could be wrong, but I think if you make it so that health grows much more quickly (maybe accelerating or exponential growth) that should fix it.
With that said, it was super fun to find the infinite though--so maybe you should keep that in! Maybe just having an end and some kind of reset could be a good addition. That or saving progress so that I could come back to this as a clicker game could be fun too :)
Overall awesome job!! Thanks for including so many people and making this :)
Finding your own masterpiece in this game was fun, but the game itself was quite enjoyable.
Creativity:
It's hard to tell how the game fits into the theme, but the concept itself is very creative, fighting random doodles is quite funny and it's nice to see a new one appear every now and then! (over 70 people wow). The game could use more mechanics on the cards. Also if you consider updating something like letting the player draw the first stickman would be really good!
Art:
Suprisingly despite 90% of the art being simple stickmen, with the way you arranged the ui and with the way the stickmen are displayed the game look really good. I was surprised that a "stickman" game'' could have so much charm! The UI looked nice and was responsive.
Sound design:
The music and sounds were simple and did their job, the relaxing music definitely added to the experience so i have no real issues with this part of the game, (props for actually having sound effects!)
----
Overall this was a surprisingly pleasant experience, and i think this has A LOT of potential for the future! Good Job!
Thanks!!
Letting the player draw the first stickman would indeed be fun, I can also imagine some kind of community stickman sharing around that, hahaha
Found my drawing! This was fun, made the mistake of attacking my own guys a few times but it's quite strategic trying to sus out the best move. Well done!
Thanks!!
Yooo this game has an HTML Wizard, thats super cool!
Got like a 40 match streak going and bad rng got me in the end.
It is quite rare to play with characters other than "attack forward", might need a bit of tweaking.
Fun game though, would love to see more mechanics, like a heal. :D
"Attack forward" is the basic attack, and sadly didnt have time to add more skills, but definitely planning to!
loved it xD found my characters! tried to get them both on a team but i failed ><!
Thanks!
And maybe in the next run 👀
Well made, good concept. I like the attack sound effect!
Thank you!
Made all of the audio at the last minute, the hit sound is just me hitting on my table, so I'm glad it's still alright hahaha
Very fun game! Simple, yet requires strategy.
There is a winning recipe in the endgame, if you are willing to burn the cards to pay the price, that is…
Also I like the community characters (definitely not biased).
Well played finding that hahaha
And thanks!
